(Formerly Rukeri Green)

Thousand Hills Green is a Rwandan steamed green tea, lovely to smell with a taste mildly astringent, but smooth. Grown in the Rukeri Valley at an elevation between 5,500 and 6,500 feet, the leaf is hand-picked and harvested only in the mornings. This green tea is rolled in traditional tea rollers using specially selected and seasoned timber tables and battens.

Rwanda is known as the Land of a Thousand Hills, and that's where this tea gets its name.

Brewing instructions
Amount: 1 teaspoon of loose tea per cup of water

About Our Rwandan Tea

Rwanda produces only one percent of the world’s tea, but its fertile volcanic soil and temperate climate make it some of the finest. Rwanda’s economy suffered a great deal during the country’s civil conflict in the 1990s, but tea has played a major role in its recovery.

Our Rwandan teas are grown in the Rukeri Valley at an elevation of 5,500 to 6,500 feet. The estate from which we import was the first facility in Rwanda to introduce environmentally-friendly policies like waste recycling. It has been at the forefront of banning child labor and supporting workers’ rights and was also the first private company in Rwanda to sign a collective bargaining agreement with its workers. The factory employs sustainable agricultural practices, has an organic section, is a participant in the Ethical Tea Partnership, and the estate is Rainforest Alliance Certified.™ It is also Fair Trade certified, which means premiums and a percentage of the profits are reinvested in the local community.

Not my fave, but good

Very close to a japanese sencha. Geeat umami. Lots of twigs and cut leaf though.
Can't be over brewed. Only light bitterness in the 1st infusion. Jade green brew. Aroma of the wet leaf was off. Maybe old leaf?
Overall, very happy to be drinking tea from Rawanda

My favorite tea

This is my favorite tea to drink. I probably buy more of this than any other tea as it is my go-to drink at work.

The smoothest green tea - a favorite!

This is one of the most delightful green teas I have tasted. It has a smooth, mild taste and does not have the grassiness that is present in many green teas. Definitely a repeat buy!

A pretty satisfied customer
An amazing tea

This tea is really good. It has the right amount of caffeine that won't make you seem like a meth addict and smooth enough to feel like you should be listening to some amazing smooth jazz in a smoking jacket while bragging about all of the democracies you rescued from the hands of warlords.

In other words, it's dope and you should be drinking it. Often.
